This Club is a roleplay club, please stay in character and put Out of Character (OOC) comments in ( ). Please note, Magnus drops most of his H’s, sometimes uses F’s instead of TH’s and drops the G from ING endings. If you ever get confused with the way he talks please feel free to ask. I try to make it so he’s understandable.

Most topics will run in a 2 week span, giving everyone a chance to play with the topic and interact. However in some cases the topic may need longer or less time depending on interest level, and in that case, it will be augmented and I will ping everyone.

Magnus arrived at the Defense Club, wearing his new robes reflecting the house change. To say he was surprised to be in Ravenclaw was an understatement but he was also very proud. As the new club members filed in, they would see a board with:

What is defense against the dark arts? Simply put, it is defending against dark magical creatures, spells, potions—as well as dark objects. Sometimes you need to use both offensive and defensive magic against these dark forces.
In this club we’ll explore various offensive and defensive methods to defend ourselves.

“’Ullo, everyone,” Magnus said brightly. “Got a sheet ‘ere if you’d sign up and lemme know what kind of things you’d like to see us cover this term. I can guarantee we will cover bogarts and patronus charms. Now, I know it’s the first day of the club so I thought we’d start with the Disarming Charm. Some people think it’s not really a good spell in a fight, but taking the wizard’s wand away for even a moment can be the difference between life and death. The incantation for the Disarming Charm is “Expelliarmus.” I thought if you all wanted to get into pairs and practice. There’s mats for everyone in case you get knocked back and I can ‘elp anyone in need.”

Paddy hadn't really thought much about which clubs she was going to join. She was sad to see Magnus wouldn't be running the care of magical creatures club this term, but the Defense Club sounded interesting enough for her to want to try it.

"Hi Magnus," she said as she entered, uncertain if she should mention Magnus' house change, "new robes?"

Magnus gave Paddy his trademark half smile. "'llo Paddy! Joining up, are you?" He had lost confidence in Care of Magical Creatures club and decided that it would be best to try something else. Hopefully he wouldn't send anyone from the room screaming like he had with the acromantulas. "'Ave a nice 'oliday?" He likewise wasn't sure if he should mention his new robe colours. "Yeah," he said with a dazed look on his face, "Got told when I got back to 'Ogwarts. Bit surprised really."

Paddy nodded, "yep, even though Uncle said he didn't see any point in a werewolf learning defensive spells, I want to learn as much as I can!"

He blinked at her. "Really? Don't mind if I say that's daft. He's only a werewolf for 3 nights a month. Ain't gonna be able to ask a nasty object, potion or creature to please wait till the full moon to attack." Realising how rude that sounded, he blushed and lowered his head. "Sorry, I mean I think its important to know 'ow to defend yourself. You never know what you're gonna be faced with."

"Don't worry," she replied, "I thought much the same. Apparently he thinks that being a werewolf, and knowing alchemy and potions is about all he needs to know." She paused for a moment before adding, "I reckon he failed his defense OWLs though, and that's why he says it's useless."

"That's mad," he said shaking his head. "I reckon you're right, cos I can't see any reason why someone would think that way."

Millie saw the posting and in the common room bulletin board and figured "why not? I'm already pretty decent at spells but I could always be better"

She entered the room and quickly wrote her name on the sign up sheet. "Amelia Tudor, Hufflepuff." She couldn't think of any spells off the top of her head. She could already cast a full corporeal Patronus.

After signing up, she looked around the room and saw Paddy and Magnus. "Hi Paddy and Magnus. I'm glad to see you both here." She said warmly

"'Ey Millie," Magnus said waving. "Glad to see you here too! I was worried no one would wanna come."

With a sound that could have been mistaken for a gentle breeze, Aria snuck into the room. Quickly, she signed in and penciled in a few subjects that she'd like to learn more about in this club, namely:Counter-Jinxes, nonverbal spells, and Inferi.

She took a seat and watched as some students practiced disarming each other. Looking over towards Paddy, she saw Magnus() wearing his new house robes. She was not very surprised to see the new robes, due to the fact that she'd been able to talk with him about the change before term had started.

After watching her peers practice the Expelliarmus charm she decided that she might as well join in. She took out her wand and silently practiced flicking her wrist in the appropriate motion for the Expelliarmus charm.

"'Ullo, sis," Magnus said as Aria came in. You wanna work with Paddy on disarming?"

Aria gave Magnus a huge cheeky grin while nodding in response to his question. She got up and walked over towards Paddy. "Magnus outed you as not having a sparring partner, want to work with me?" She asked. ( )

Millie was still waiting for a partner and she responded to Magnus, "I told myself I needed to get more involved here. I just hope I don't get too overwhelmed. I'm sure I'll be okat though".

Millie saw Aria and she gave a big wave

Though she should have been concentrating harder on mentally going over her spells, Aria was in her own daydream world far away. She noticed Millie smile and greet her, which broke her out of here thoughts bringing her back into the room. "Hello! How was your summer break?" She asked Millie. ()

"Sure" Paddy replied to Aria, practising the wand movement a few times first. She didn't want to risk making entirely the wrong movement and looking a complete prat. "Expelliarmus" she called, waving her wand in Aria's direction, hoping that her aim was on target. She was pretty good at charms, but she'd not been practising over the break, and figured her aim might be a little rusty. To her surprise, Aria's wand flew from her hand, although Paddy did wonder if that had more to do with the fact that Aria's attention was diverted, rather than Paddy's charm casting skills.

Aria stood ready for paddy to disarm her but started daydreaming again. She just couldn't keep her mind in the room this afternoon! Aria felt her wand fly from her grasp, just as she was trying to bring her attention back. Her mouth hung open in surprise for a quick moment before she looked at Paddy and smile brightly. "Great job!" Aria congratulated her sparring partner.

"I think I'll I've it a go," Aria said while retrieving her wand. "I've been practicing a variety of new spells all summer." Aria was still speaking when she flicked her wrist and silently disarmed Paddy. "Oh! It worked!!" Aria exclaimed in giddy excitement. ()

Paddy gripped her wand, and waited for Aria to say the incantation, but before she realised what had happened, Aria had silently disarmed her. "How did you manage that without saying anything?" she asked in disbelief, picking up her wand to try again. Paddy waved her wand, trying to silently disarm Aria, but nothing happened. Undeterred, she muttered "Expelliarmus" under her breath, and grinned as Aria's wand fell to the floor. Ok, so it wasn't flying a distance, but it took the wand from her hand.

Aria smiled and tried to quickly explain while still standing at the ready, in case Paddy() wanted to practice disarming her again. "I've been practicing nonverbal spell casting for months now." She felt the charm Paddy cast tug at her wand and take it from her hand. "Excellent," she said while retrieving her wand.

Aria walked over towards Paddy. "I had to learn to be invisible while living in the streets of London," Aria further explained in a softer tone. "So casting spells out loud seemed to be a really great way to get noticed by everyone. At the end of last term, I decided to put all my energy into learning to cast silently, in order to protect myself." Aria shrugged before continuing. "Now that I've been adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Lee I have a home, but old habits die hard. I still find myself hoarding food and trying to find dark spots to hide in." She giggled at herself and winked at Paddy, who looked a bit concerned.

"I can help you with nonverbal spell casting if you like, though it takes a lot of practice. I've only mastered it on a few spells myself," Aria admitted sheepishly.
